ANTICPATED POSITION:        Assistant Coordinator of Student Services

SALARY:                                  Based on SAA Contract

EFFECTIVE DATE:                    Anticipated January 2, 2018

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Valid New York State Certification as a School District Administrator or School District Leader.
  • Administrative experience preferred.  
  • Minimum Five (5) years teaching/professional experience.  
  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and communicative skills.  
  • Familiarity with CSE/CPSE process and procedure and willingness to learn all administrative aspects associated with Office of Student Services.

Duty Statement Assistant to the Coordinator of Student Services

  • Reports directly to the Director of Student Services.
  • Responsible for conducting teacher observations in accordance with the SCTA contract and APPR Teacher plan at all levels, district wide. Responsibilities include conducting pre and post observations, collaboration with Building, Department and District Office Administration.
  • Responsible for staffing oversight, placement  and  new hire recommendations,  and evaluation of Special Education Teachers,  Teaching Assistants, Home ABA Supervisor, Behavior Specialists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech Therapists, Teachers of the Hearing Impaired, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Individual Aides under the direction of the Director of Student Services.
  • Monitor, supervise, evaluate CSE recommendations, related placements, initial referrals, and requested reviews for CSE.
  • Develop CSE, Annual review and 504 schedules.
  • Responsible for coordinating State reporting (including indicators), K-12 Special Education department and projection meetings under the direction of the Director of Student Services.
  • Attend, participate and/or facilitate various meetings including but not limited to: Parent, Team, department, CSE, CPSE, Annual Review, Reevaluation, Manifestation Determination, 504, Principal, ILT meetings and others as may be required.
  • May conduct or facilitate staff development and in-district professional development workshops as required.
  • Assess testing assessment materials and programs for K through 12 special education programs and make recommendations to the Director of Student Services.
  • Address staff and parent concerns and make recommendations to the Director of Student Services.
  • Attends and participates in various legal proceedings related to special education cases and impartial hearings under the direction of the Director of Student Services.
  • Maintains administrative oversight of the Sachem Extended School Year program. Works directly with the SESY Supervisor on projections, student placement, staffing and additional program needs as required and makes recommendations to the Director of Student Services.
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining IEP amendments.
  • Provide programmatic, budgetary and staffing recommendations to the Director of Student Services.
  • Conduct end of year evaluations and monitor performance of Office of Student Services Clerical.
  • Evaluate cross contract students for placement and make recommendations to the Director of Student Services on these placements.
  • Conduct new entrant meetings with parent/guardian to appropriately place the student(s).
  • Researches State, Federal and legal resources to ensure that District training is up to date with New York State regulations for the Office of Student Services.
  • District Alternate compliance officer.
  • Works collaboratively with District Administration adhering to District, Federal and legal requirements and procedures.
  • Serves on various committees and task forces as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
